A year ago today, I lost my Grandma. She was lovingly known by my daughter's as Gigi. I know that she is in heaven walking on the streets of gold but I miss her earthly being. Whenever we went home to my parents, we always visited Grandma in the nursing home and she would come to Dad and Mom's house to visit. Now, there is a void in our visits home as we do not go to the nursing home and Grandma does not come.
My Grandma wore hearing aides but for the most part was deaf and read lips. She never missed a beat in life and was one of the happiest people I ever knew. She had the hardiest laugh and when I would say something funny she would laugh and laugh and say "Oh, Sher-ry!" She would emphasize "Sher" and then "ry". I loved to play Dominoes and Uno with her. She was really sharp and would often beat me. I also loved that she said pizza just as it is spelled. We say pitza but she said pizza. She called bra's brazers (I hope I spelled that right) and that would make me chuckle. The best part though was often as I sat next to Grandma, she would reach over and take my hand. The last time I saw my Grandma, she did not really seem to be all there. She smiled seeing I was visiting but did not interact much. My Mom took the girls to show them something in another part of the nursing home. I was sitting next to my Grandma and she reached over and held my hand. I will never, never forget her touch and the love in it. Many nights as Larry is already snoring, I think of my Grandma and wipe tears as I fall asleep. I miss her so much! The picture I have posted came with her last Christmas card. The nursing home did up a card with her photo on it. It hangs on my fridge not so I won't forget my Grandma, because that will never happen, but it reminds me of what a humble, precious, woman she was. Grandma, I look forward to the day I see you in heaven!
