Annual Videourodynamics

Yesterday Katy had her annual videourodynamics. I have to be honest and say that I dread this test every year.  Katy has to be admitted each year like she is having outpatient surgery.  We have to go to the pre-op area and go through all the paperwork, vitals and nine yards as if she is having surgery.  They always seem to be running behind and such was the case this year again (an hour).  Katy was admitted at 2:00 PM with a 3:30 PM test schedule time and we did not get taken to the OR until 4:30 PM.  Katy's test is done in an operating room.  I as well have to fully gown up to go back with her.

At last minute, Katy's Urologist decided to just to a urodynamics instead of the video part which checks the bladder for reflux back into the kidneys.  He said she has not refluxed in 3 years so did not feel she would be now either.  The Urologist drained (caths) Katy's bladder dry and then refills it with a clear solution.  He watched how her bladder reacted to being filled and what her pressures were in the bladder. While the test is being done, Katy's pulse and blood pressure are being monitored as well.

The good news..... Katy's test results were GREAT!!!  She has very low pressure in her bladder.  Nothing was changed on her daily med or cath routine.  The Urologist then cathed her again to drain her bladder and we were sent to recovery.

In recovery we are treated again just like Katy had surgery and her vitals and all of that has to be done before we can leave.  So, we arrived at 2:00 PM and walked out of the post-op at 5:30 PM.  It is such a long process!

During all of this, Katy is a COMPLETE ANGEL.  She keeps her "Katy smile" the entire time and just takes it all is stride without a complaint or anything.  She is a real trooper when it comes to medical procedures!  We are so very blessed!!!

Wow! She sounds like an amazing child to tolerate it all so well. Glad you're finished with that for another year--and that you got such great results!

That's great news. My oldest used to have a lot of DR appts & procedures to deal with & she was also a perfect patient everytime. I like to think that God just stirs in a little bit more tolerance for that, knowing they will need it....
